Professor So's research focuses on the optimal allocation of resources in the design and management of production and services systems. He has studied and evaluated different operating strategies with the objective of maximizing efficiency and improving response time of the systems. His most recent research work studies the optimal component procurement strategy for an assemble-to-order product where product price depends on delivery lead time. In another study, he analyzes the benefits of deploying transshipments to reduce inventory and improve service performance in a large distribution system.
